continue reading...After the great experience with the lecture with the musicians, I decided not to do another lecture until we had just as good a panel. We found out then that we had people coming in from far outside Manila and it had to be worth it. I know how much time is worth and I wasn’t going to ask it of people if it would just be a so-so thing.
But then… Atom Araullo said yes. Haha.

continue reading...We had our first #romanceclass lecture and it rocked! Sorry for the pun! But it did.
On June 12, Independence Day here in the Philippines, the #romanceclass community met again to have our regular book discussion — except we’ve now turned it into a “lecture” series for writers or aspiring authors. What’s the difference? Well, when we used to meet to discuss books, I think the general impression was that you had to read the assigned books first, when the truth was, we didn’t care. We just wanted to talk about romance, books, and ideas for writing.

continue reading...This scene from Finding X by Miles Tan was in the original #romanceclass live reading — and we couldn’t resist doing it again. So at the Filipino Readercon, we had Gio and Rachel perform it, and we recorded it live, and now it’s episode 8 of the podcast.
continue reading...The podcast will sound a little different this week, and that’s because this episode was recorded live. Gio and Rachel performed excerpts from romance novels at the Filipino Readercon, and this was one of their scenes. The Boyfriend Backtrack by Dawn Lanuza was a hit among us present at the rehearsal, and I knew it would present a fun challenge for the actors. They of course nailed it, in rehearsal, and live.
